Best and worst of the Grammys

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine looks like a member of the reptilian family.
With the voice of an angel, Adele is not known for making fashion statements. At least she wasn't in black.

  • TOP 5:

1 Kelly Rowland in a daring mesh cut-out mermaid gown by Georges Chakra. She was perfectly styled with emerald green jewellery by Lorraine Schwartz and a loose low bun with soft bangs. Her sleek hair and minimal make-up went well with the modern feel of the cut-outs in the dress.

2 Jennifer Lopez in an asymmetrical gown by Anthony Vaccarello in the trend of the night - black. In my opinion, JLo's look was the best styled - from the high topknot to the arm swag from Norman Silverman, to the statement shoes by Tom Ford and then everything pulled together with her signature make-up, dewy skin with smoky eyes and nude lips. Lopez sizzled in the perfect balance between sexy and edgy and it was ideal for the Grammys.

3 Rihanna, in a custom Azzedine Alaia gown, never looked more radiant. She has become one of the fashionistas to watch and showed up at the Grammys sophisticated, classy and sexy. I would have preferred this look with a side swept to show the detail in the top of the dress but she looked comfortable and radiant gliding down the red carpet with that long chiffon train.

4 Sport's Illustrated model Chrissy Teiger (John Legend's fiancée) wore a sexy rib-riff lace two-piece ensemble with a thigh-high slit by Joy Cioci. She achieved the harmonious balance between sexy and classy with the delicate lace trim detail. Her side swept kept the look fresh and the choice of a mint green minaudiere for a soft contrast was spring forward.

5 In a sea of black gowns, Solange Knowles stood out in a gorgeous emerald green stunner by Ralph Russo Couture. She chose the Christian Louboutin's Pigalle Spikes in rose pink for a bold contrast which gave some edge to the look. Solange takes risks and it is for that reason we have grown to love her. However, I would have loved this more if she did more with her make-up, kept her hair sleek and pulled back, and made the dress the star instead of having it compete with that oversized afro.

  • WORST

Florence Welsh from Florence and the Machines. Loved the colour on her but one could not help but compare her to a member of the reptilian family. A very bold choice and I have to respect her for that. She's known for her fashion debacles and I suspect that she wouldn't have it any other way

Adele in Valentino too much print for her frame and body type. There was no balance but maybe if the hemline was a little longer it would be better, but that print wasn't very flattering on her. Her shoes were also wrong, nude shoes or basic black would have been better.

Tamia: The gold caftan gown with plunging neckline was very unflattering. It left many wondering if she was trying to conceal weight gain but if that were the case, it backfired because it made her look larger. Then she wore a long necklace with long soft wavy hair under a turban, so I got a little confused because there was just too much going on.

Lila Downs was a floral fiasco. She apparently has no stylist and just grabbed anything that had colour out of her closet. I'm all for self-expression but clothes should at least fit. I am going to assume that the blue fringed shawl was an attempt of mixing prints but I must truthfully confess that she failed. I wouldn't have hated it so much if the skirt had a flair and was not straight because she doesn't have the curves needed for a straight skirt.

Kimbra in a Jamie Lee Major dress that resembled what Tinkerbell would look like if she was wrapped in tulle and strung up with white Christmas lights. I didn't hate this dress, it suited her tiny frame but again too much was going on. This would have been a hit if there was no tulle at the front and it had a knee-length hemline. Her hair was too harsh for such a soft dress and her choice of vintage glamour with such a whimsical dress was a failure.
