Dr Saphire Longmore is a young, trailblazing go-getter. She has been marching to the beat of her own drum, charting a formidable course that has set her apart from many young women.

Since being introduced to the national stage, she has taken many a career path, while maintaining her primary love for medicine. She qualified as a psychiatrist in 2011, but and for many, she is hailed for her bid to be elected member of parliament on a Jamaica Labour Party ticket in Eastern St Andrew in the 2011 general election. She lost to the People's National Party's André Hylton by 232 votes after being on the campaign trail for a total of six weeks and being five months pregnant.

For others, it is the fact that she was the first practising medical doctor who entered a national beauty pageant and walked away with the crown of Miss Jamaica Universe in the year 2000.
