WESTERN BUREAU:A fabulous Ras Natango painting and handicaps that needed 'cutting' were the highlights of the inagural charity golf tournament by the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association.
Blessed with a beautiful sun-drenched morning at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Rose Hall, Montego Bay, some 70 golfers turned out for the event which has been tagged a success by two of the organisers, Delwin Rochester and Staiton Baker.
At the end of play, Kingstonian Sean Williams was declared the overall winner, and first place in the 0-6 flight. The game of golf is played in handicap. The players were put into flights depending on their handicap (level of competence).
Williams' success was followed closely by Montego Bay's Andrew Brennan, whose prowess on the 18-hole championship course gained him first place in the 7-11 flight.
But it was all about charity for these sportsmen and women, including Dr Wynn Zor, who not only walked away with the raffled Ras Natango painting, but also copped a three-day two-night stay at Secrets Resorts and Spa and a trophy for his first-place position in the 12-17 flight.
The money raised from their efforts will be used to fund a number of projects by the hospitality-sector organisation. These include purchasing fans for the Tower Hill Basic School, the SOS Children's Village, and providing opportunities for the street boys in the Second City.
Completing the winning list were Thurston Gordon, first place for 18 and over flight, and Kay Weir, who carried the torch for the women.
The event was directed by Cinnamon Hill's golf director, Robert Ames.
