Laughter, warm embraces and smooches were clear indications that the inaugural staging of the Immaculate Conception High School's Hall of Fame Award Banquet was highly anticipated.

Past students, friends and affiliates of the all-girl Catholic institution turned out in their numbers two Saturdays ago at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel to award and celebrate excellence.

With the banquet room decorated in the school colours - blue and white - guests were gracefully ushered to their seats by sixth-form students.

The tables were skipped for the most part until the formalities, as the excitement of seeing long-time friends and schoolmates created a buzz in the room, causing guests to roam happily.

Patron for the evening, Don Wehby, spoke of his delight at being asked to be a part of the proceedings. He spoke highly of the institution, which his mother taught at for several years and that his sister attended.

The school is known for its consistency in academic excellence, which made selecting this year's inductees into the hall of fame a challenge.

A challenge indeed, as instead of having five inductees, six were chosen, including one deceased - Lisa Narcisee, for her contribution to the music and arts industry.

The other women are Mary Anne Chambers, for her work in government and public service; Sister Maureen Clare Hall, for her service in education; Dr Dorothy Anna Jarvis - medicine; Thalia Lyn - business; and Sister Grace Yap - volunteerism and social services.

Eight alumni chapters from across the world were asked to send in nominations. And there is no doubt that in the next two years, the next staging of the Hall of Fame Banquet will be an even bigger success.
