Jamaicans among six arrested for drugs

Bahamas police said they had arrested six people, including two Jamaicans, for the illegal possession of drugs after the Police Harbour Unit had responded to a distressed call from a vessel northeast of the country.

The authorities did not disclose the name of the two Jamaicans and four locals arrested, but said that the police had seized 86 pounds of marijuana with a street value of US$86,000 during the operations on Tuesday.
They said the drugs were found in 47 taped packages and that the white 20 ft Aqua Sport had also been seized.
The six people are due to appear in court soon.
