NEW YORK (CMC):

New York police say a 22-year-old Trinidadian man was fatally shot on the steps of a Brooklyn apartment complex in the heart of the Caribbean community here.

Police and eyewitnesses said the victim, known by the nickname 'UB', which stands for 'Unknown Boy' was shot five times in the chest on Tuesday as scores of horrified onlookers ducked for cover.

I just saw the crowd disperse, kids were coming home from school," the superintendent of a building across the street told reporters.

"I saw a lady with her kids do the sign of the cross."

Emergency services professionals rushed the man, whose full name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin, to nearby Kings County Hospital, but he could not be saved.
