HEELS-N-TIES
Garfene Grandison, Assistant Lifestyle Coordinator
As they made their way into the West Bay venue, one foot ahead of the other, some sparkling, others strappy, a few with colours and lots with spikes, studs and crystals, the ladies wore their best! In the latest and most expensive heels, they greeted the gents in their mod and trendy ties of all kinds for a one-of-a-kind experience that is unique to the Cayman nightlife.
Taking the small island of Cayman by storm and breathing a breath of fresh air into an already mellow social scene are the dynamic duo of Melanie Seymour and Kevin Dawkins. They form the MK Society - a new event-planning company that hopes to bring a new meaning to the concept of exclusivity to the Cayman nightlife experience.
With their first event staging doubling as the launch of their company, Heels-N-Ties, as it was so chicly dubbed, was an oasis within an oasis where patrons were expected to dress to the nines while sipping on the island's best liquor of choice and nibbling on delectable hors d'oeuvres from the Blue Cilantro restaurant.
The dress code? Cosmopolitan, with ladies
donning their most captivating heels and the gents, the most modish
ties.
With every premium all-inclusive event comes a
price tag that is often frowned upon by some. At $100 CI, the patrons
still came out understanding the luxuries that come with an
all-inclusive concept.
Venue
transformed
The event started promptly at 9 p.m. as
patrons stepped into the swanky Blue Cilantro which was transformed to
reflect a venue where high-class decor meets exclusive
sophistication.
The venue was perfectly decorated and
spacious with an open floor plan. On entering the party, patrons were
greeted with a Heels-N-Ties Signature Cocktail and the MK Cosmo. A wide
variety of delicious food options were in the offerings, including
bacon-wrapped scallops, lamb kebabs and conch fritters, chicken tandoori
and a wide assortment of delicious desserts.
As the
night progressed, the vibe soared to an all-time high as patrons began
to feel the musical styling of DJ Atom Skillz and DJ Glen-Roy who kept
the patrons dancing to hip-hop, soca and reggae anthems, with even some
throwback tunes scattered in between.
Like Jamaica,
the most anticipated segment of the night was the dancehall segment. As
the DJ played hit after hit, quite a number of heels were flung to one
side as they partied the night away. Lady Saw's Heels
On was a favourite for the night as it fit right in with the
theme of the event.
Before the festivities came to an
end promptly at 2 a.m., there were prizes and surprises for the patrons.
The Most Captivating Heels went to Kathy Vanderbroek, who got a gift
certificate from NKY, the Most Modish Tie went to Kemar Brown, who also
got a gift certificate from Arrabus, and Eugent Dawes was the night's
big winner as he walked away with a ticket, courtesy of Cayman
Airways.
Still shimmering in the light but walking
with a little less pep in their step, the ladies made their way from the
Blue Cilantro to their automobile that awaited them, knowing full well
that they had an amazing
night.
