MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

AMID THE hustle and bustle in the town of Mandeville, there is a pharmacy that knows what caring for its customers is all about. CAN Care Pharmacy Limited has only been around for seven years, yet the services it offers have been touching lives in the community it serves.

Every other Wednesday, you will find workers from CAN Care Pharmacy in the market offering vendors and customers special discounts on various items. In fact, other weekdays have been designated for various groups in the Mandeville community. Bank days are on Fridays, Saturdays are for hairdressers and Thursdays are designated as discount days for government workers.

Friendly environment

Manager at CAN Care Pharmacy Limited, Kaydian Tyndale, shared what drives the staff at CAN Care to serve.

"We want to make a difference with our service, doing this in a godly and friendly environment. We are a caring set of people ready to give back, hence our slogan 'We CAN Care for you', and we work in a clean and homely place," she noted. They have an active counselling room where customers receive advice not limited to topics surrounding health. Their valued customers can also receive a hot beverage upon request while they conduct their business.

Beverley Facey has been a customer of CAN Care since its opening and she had high praises for the pharmacy. "I find them to be very accommodating. If I come here and I'm not feeling well, there is someone to accommodate me.

"So far, I don't see a health card they're not taking and you can also benefit from their discounts. If you don't have the amount of money, they find out how much you can afford, and then try to accommodate you ... if your cash is not enough," Facey said.

The staff at CAN Care is driven by their tag line 'We CAN Care for you' as they seek to make health care more accessible and affordable to the citizens of Mandeville. Donna Spencer, a first-time customer, was referred to the pharmacy by her aunt because she was told the prices were more reasonable than at other pharmacies. When asked if she would return, she replied without hesitation: "Why not? Its [service] is good," she said.

CAN Care Pharmacy recently shared in the Department of Communication Studies Sym-posium at Northern Caribbean University where they offered free blood-pressure checks and free blood-sugar testing to the first five persons who visited their booth. Vitamins and other nutritional supplements were made available to students and workers alike at an affordable cost. CAN Care has previously engaged in similar activities at the Catholic College and the Police Youth Club in Mandeville. Facey also spoke about CAN Care's community involvement: "You find CAN Care people at health centres. They visit the hospitals. They are always promoting their services; they are always out in the community," she noted.
