NOTEWORTHY

Published:Thursday | May 23, 2013 | 12:00 AM

'Despite achieving seven CSEC subjects: a Glenmuir fourth-former might not be able to graduate'. The principal stated that if a student doesn't sit English language or math in fifth form, he/she cannot graduate.

The minister of education cannot sit by idly and allow schools to impose frivolous rules and regulations. Each school has its own set of regulations, sometimes these myopic regulations run counter to the Code of Education of the Education Act.

- Clive Mortley

The minister of education needs to take a closer look at these schools and some of their rules. They even have a rule about how many and which subjects your child does. It is not their money paying for them, so why should they decide?!

- Aretha Blessed

This is heights of stupidity. Was the law made for us or we for the law? So, why was she PERMITTED to sit the subjects in question early, and later blocked from graduating? What is that? I say that's not wisdom. I say that's stupidity or intellectual dishonesty.

- Pajer Lx

This must be the worst excuse of a rule ever ... come on ... Principal. Is it about you?

- Mad-summa Andy

What happen to obeying rules and regulations?

- Keisha Trishjae Powell

This nonsense is going on for far to long. What is the purpose of upgrading all these schools to high schools, is it for every child to have a high school education? Why are some schools choosing who should or should not graduate? I can understand if a student is unbearably disruptive or has been involved in illicit or criminal offences, then that decision can be argued, but to just not have children graduate because you have the power to is scary. The education ministry needs to come down strong on this practice.

- Dane Roofie Hamilton

That is a dumb rule and the funny thing is that it is practised in many schools. Glenmuir, this is not your most clever moment, to say the least.
