The Gleaner's Code of Ethics
The team of reporters, editors, photographers and freelancers at The Gleaner Company Ltd are guided by a code of ethics and professionalism.
This code, among other things, states that it is a violation for anyone connected to the newsroom to receive gifts or favours in exchange for the publication of any material in our various products. In other words, members of the public, news sources, advertisers or organisations, are not required to pay newsroom staff for their material to be published on our news pages.
In addition, our code of professionalism points out that, to ensure that the credibility of the newspaper is not damaged, newsroom workers have a special responsibility to avoid conflict of interest or any activity that would compromise their journalistic integrity.
Our code is our contract with you our readers, advertisers and other customers. We take any breach seriously. We act swiftly. Any breach can be reported to editor@gleanerjm.com. You may read the details of our code at www.jamaica-gleaner.com/editorialpolicy.html.
