The much-anticipated film version of The Great Gatsby has finally arrived and, here on the 'rock', we were just as eager as the fashion lovers in the fashion meccas across the world. With our emotions sky high for the premier as we anxiously anticipated the interpretation of director Baz Luhrmann, (who is best known for movies like Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge, films recognised not just by movie critics, but also by fashion authorities for their visual richness), we gathered a number of our friends across the Lifestyle circuit who were ready to don their 1920s garb to welcome the theme of the movie with roaring fanfare. After all, it was the era of the 'roaring' '20s.

As infamously stated by Jordan Baker (Elizabeth Debicki) to Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), "I like large parties. They're so intimate." And so do we! After our Gatsby-inspired party at Carib 5, we are here to share the inspirations behind our 1920s meet and greet as we partied the night away in The Great Gatsby.

Set in New York City in a lull between two world-changing events - after World War I and a few years before the Great Depression - it was the Roaring '20s. The Jazz Age. The Age of Wonderful Nonsense.

The movie has garnered mixed reviews from critics, with some arguing that the costumes are historically inaccurate. But being set in the 'age of intolerance', with Gatsby himself being an inconsistent character, the audience will surely be forgiving these supposed costume representations. Here's a look at the nights trendy ensembles.

Perhaps these fashion choices will inspire the return of these 1920s fashions in the coming days.

I was really inspired by the polished look of the '20s. I chose my outfit with J. Gatsby in mind, trying to channel that suave debonair look and, of course, a pair of Eye Q frames just brings it all together.

This dress is one that I've had for years and I thought it fit the theme. And since my daughter told me that the 1920s was all about pearls and lace and beach tone colours, it was just perfect in my eyes.

When I think of the 1920s Jazz Age, I think of fringes, pearls and feathers. To recreate my 'Roaring '20s' look, I reached for a vintage-style black dress that has sheer pleats. Dress that up with layers of pearls to add a touch of feminine sophistication and, to complete the look - sparkling hair jewels. Totally channelling Daisy Buchanan!

Just by looking at the looks of that era I saw that it was really feminine but a little bit on the sexier side with a lot of glam. So I decided on this little number that had a paisley print and some sequins for glitz. The fun part for me was accessorising with the pearls and the bold jewellery pieces.

The classic hairstyle is very vintage and is something I always wanted to do. The black stockings are very '20s and the dark lips. The tulip cut in the front gave that sexy sophistication of the '20s and the pearls were just the infamous statement piece of the era.

My closet is very contemporary, with a few older Escada pieces, so I chose pieces that were indicative of the era with lace and big sparkly jewellery. Plus, a lace fan always makes everything a little more feminine. I wish we could use them every day.

Gabrielle Miller

Side parts and slicked back hair, fishnets and feathered accessories. All part of one of my favourite musicals, Chicago. I was channelling my inner Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly for the Gatsby premiere.
