Repentance is key to avoid an earthquake
Steve Lyston, Contributor
Many nations can say they have experienced the jolts, aftershocks and emotional roller coasters that come with an earthquake, and many have certainly seen the devastation it is capable of leaving behind. Despite that, one thing we must endeavour to recognise is that God speaks through natural disasters and occurrences.
Earthquakes come in many forms and it has several significance, both positive and negative. It can mean sudden release of great power; ground-shaking changes; shock and awe (Isaiah 64:2-4). Further to this, the Oxford dictionary states that the term earthquake is a violent vibration of the earth's surface, such as the ones seen in Haiti and Japan; as well as the one of which American seismic expert and geophysics professor Eric Calais is warning Jamaica.
It is the responsibility of those in leadership to avoid any negative earthquakes. For years, God has been warning the political leaders to call the nation into repentance, in order to close the door to the brutal murders, crime, immorality, and the path of degradation and destruction down which the nation is headed.
The nation's problem is not merely a natural occurrence; it is the result of breaking spiritual laws. When spiritual laws are broken, the implementation of natural laws cannot fix the matter. It does not work!
It is the responsibility of the prime minister to call the nation into a time of atonement, in order to avoid the earthquake. It should not be a problem for any of our leaders - past or present - to call the nation into a time of repentance and partake as well; because many have partaken in what has been deemed cultural activities, which has led to the spiritual spiralling of the nation.
This nation has been known as a Christian nation and that has become a part of the nation's culture too.
The next earthquake that is pending is the shaking of the nation's two political parties. The legacy the parties are attempting to create will be totally destroyed. God will expose and fragment and raise up new political order, where leadership will not stem from any of the Ps.
Many may say it is impossible, but remember that with God all things are possible. If a black man can become president of the United States, and if apartheid can be come to an end to the point where the very prisoner became the leader of that nation, then what can't God do?
God can raise up leaders at every level who are free from partisan politics, willing to unite the nation, and thus change the path of the nation to allow for economic growth; one who is not afraid to bow their knees and repent so that the nation can move forward.
God is never short on leaders and He rules in the affairs of men! (Daniel 4:17) He always has someone being trained in the wilderness for the appointed time.
Everything has to operate in the sphere of law. The law of gravity dictates that what goes up must come down. Likewise, the law of sowing and reaping dictates that what you sow, you shall reap. Thus, everything is governed by natural and spiritual laws, and when anyone of these laws is broken, there are always consequences.
The first five commandments in Exodus 20 deal with man's obligations to God. The last five commandments deal with man's obligations to each other.
When murder, rape and degradation increase in a nation, it means that spiritual laws have been broken. The physical condition of a land symbolises the moral conduct of man within the nation. The moral conduct of man always affects the environment (Genesis 8:9). Heathen and pagan practices defile a nation (Leviticus 18:26-28).
Weep and mourn
If Jamaica continues to embrace evil practices, and will not stop doing so; if they refuse to repent, then the nation will weep and mourn for a long time and will not be comforted. Many influential persons within the nation, who should know better, are leading astray the children and youth of the nation.
They embrace pagan religions because they refuse to follow the true and living God and the holy lifestyle required and they are unwilling to change. The leaders within the nation - both spiritual and secular - are not all setting good examples nor do many of them display proper values and attitudes. As a result, our young people are perishing.
We must make the decision now to avoid the earthquake.
