The obsession can be served frozen if you so desire, which makes it the perfect summer cooler.

Last week, we featured home-made summer-cooler options for children. But their parents are not to be left out as they, too, need to beat the heat. The only difference is that adult thirst quenchers can have that extra buzz by adding some alcohol to the mix.

Whether you are on a lunch break or a night or evening out, a little tropical cooler with a twist can't hurt. In fact, it may be that 'oomph' you need to unwind after a hard day at work and to kick-start a wonderful time out.

For our 'Rated R' segment of summer coolers, the A-Bar Restaurant and Lounge served up an attractive cocktail menu, perfect for the summer heat.

According to bartender, Andray Burnett, the cocktails are fruit-based, which makes them quite refreshing. And they taste as good and refreshing as they look.

"Presentation is very important. You see the drink before you actually taste it, so we use garnishes and make our drinks brightly coloured."

A favourite for most women, these cocktails which are featured during their happy hours from Monday to Thursday between 4 and 7 p.m. are available at half price.

Passion Vodka

Lime juice

Simple syrup

7-Up

Asian Blonde

Ingredients:

Cooks White Zinfandel Champagne

Lychee juice

Passion Vodka

Miami Vice

Ingredients:

A combination of the strawberry daiquiri and pina colada mixes. The vice comes through the addition of orange-flavoured liqueur.

For all recipes, add ingredients.
