The embers of love between Earl and Patricia were ignited at a social gathering in 1959. Earl looked across the room and was dumbstruck by the stately elegance of Patricia. He was so smitten by her that, the very next day, the normally reserved Earl who had recently emigrated from Costa Rica, found himself calling Pat to invite her out to dinner.

Many dinners later, Earl and Patricia realised that their love was ordained by God, so they diligently planned for the formalisation of their union. They patiently waited until Patricia graduated from nursing school at the University Hospital of the West Indies, and Earl graduated from the Calabar Theological School as an ordained Baptist minister, to officially begin the celebrations.

Earl asked Patricia for her hand in marriage and Patricia gracefully accepted. The two were married on Wednesday, July 3, 1963. The wedding ceremony, which was officiated by a number of pastors, bound their vows in Heaven and inscribed on their hearts mutual love and respect for the rest of their lives.

pleasing to God

Reverend Morgan and his wife Patricia produced four children three daughters, Margaret, Delaine, and Michelle, and a son, David. The couple dedicated themselves to bringing up their children in a manner pleasing to God while at the same time preparing them for the rigours of life. The Morgans were heavily involved in community service, Earl through the church ministry, and Pat through public nursing. They have also instilled the qualities of giving, sharing and hard work in their children and five grandchildren.

Reverend and Mrs Morgan readily admit that they faced many challenges throughout the years. However, they will also tell you that their strong belief in God as well as love, respect, and trust have kept them together to meet this golden milestone of 50 years of marriage.

The Morgans celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during the Bernard family biennial family reunion in Jamaica last month at the Jewel Runaway Beach & Golf Resort. The family used the occasion to recognise and celebrate the milestone of Reverend and Mrs Earl Morgan.

Their children say ...

"I am so blessed to have parents who instilled in me the qualities of love, caring, compassion and perseverance, which I continue to display with my family and friends."

- Margaret

"I will always celebrate my parents who have done so much to make me who I am. I thank them for raising me to stand up for what I believe in, spiritual guidance, uncompromising values and teachings of the importance of being constantly grateful for life's many blessings. Their mantra - 'being challenged in life is inevitable, but being defeated is optional' - will continue to be a strong influence in my life."

- Delaine

"Every day, I am thankful that I have such awesome parents who give tirelessly to others and forever demonstrate acts of love and kindness. They will forever be my heroes."

- Michelle

"Sadly, during my growing-up years, I did not show enough appreciation and admiration to two of the most important people in my life. I am sure many of us are guilty of this. Many times I feel that they did too much, but that is how my parents are, always giving, caring, and I will take these qualities with me for life."

- David
