PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Four secondary-school boys will reappear in court on August 29 after they were released on a total of TT$250,000 (US40,000) bail on charges of grievous sexual assault, indecent assault, and sex with a girl under the age of 16.

The 17-year-old schoolboys are alleged to have committed some of the acts against the girl at the school compound in East Trinidad on May 15 last year.

One of the boys was additionally charged with having sex with the girl, who is not his wife, between the ages of 14 to 16 on a date unknown between February 1 and 9 last year.

Two of the accused were placed on TT$50,000 bail to be approved by a clerk of the peace since they allegedly committed just one act against the girl, while two others were granted TT$75,000 bail each as they had allegedly committed two sexual acts each against the girl.

Magistrate Wendy Dougdeen-Bally ordered the schoolboys to stay 100 metres away from the girl and have no contact with her of any kind. They are also ordered to report to police stations near their home twice weekly.
