Don't be doubtful of Goat Island
THE EDITOR, SIR:
AS A stakeholder in the Portland Bight Protected Area. I am concerned as to why there is so much objection to the trans-shipment port proposed for Goat Island, even before an EIA is completed?
Where are Caribbean Coastal Area Management and Jamaica Environment Trust, when the Jamaica Public Service is discharging 3,500 tons of sulphur dioxide and other pollutants, affecting the residents in the five-miles study-impact area of the Old Harbour Bay Power Station yearly?
Where were they when the Caribbean Mariculture discharge fecal coliform on the Old Harbour Bay com-munity?
Where were they when Brampton Farm and Whimps were being converted to housing?
The development of Goat Islands will certainly have far less negative impact on residents of Old Harbour Bay than all the other projects that they have given their blessings.
