A diverse mix of nationalities and accents gathered on the lawns of the residence of the Mexican ambassador to Jamaica on Sunday, to commemorate the 203rd anniversary of the Independence of Mexico.

Ambassador Gerardo Lozano and his wife, Mariza, personalised the meet-and-greet segment of the reception as they stood at the entrance to formally welcome guests upon arrival.

A Mexican celebration, guests were in for quite a treat as the country's culture was on display in the decor, entertainment, and food.

Assuming full responsibility for the preparation of the food and decor, Gran Bahía Príncipe staff made sure that guests experienced a bit of Spanish flavour.

To make way for the evening's celebrations, Ambassador Lozano took the platform to address guests and officially start the 'party'.

Commemorating his country's Independence for the second time in Jamaica, Lozano said it has been his pleasure as both his home country and Jamaica are similar in nature.

"Jamaica and Mexico are neighbours who share the magnificent Caribbean sea: neighbours who are conscious of our need to be united to build a better tomorrow for our future generations; neighbours who value the principles of democracy, the respect and promotion of human rights; neighbours who have an unwavering determination to fight poverty with a view to achieving sustainable development for our nations," he said.

He also spoke of the bilateral relationship which has grown over the years between both countries and the collaborative assignments they have embarked upon.

Reiterating his country's support as a close partner, the ambassador proposed a toast in celebration of the friendship and cooperation between Mexico and Jamaica.

Following the formalities, it was time to consume a little bit of Mexico while enjoying the ambience and good company.
