On Monday, specially invited guests made their way down the halls of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with Ambassador Zheng Qindian.
Held in the Montego Bay Suite ballroom, after being greeted by the Chinese Ambassador himself, guests made their way into the heart of the activities where small talk and laughter took charge.
Waiters were kept busy throughout the night as they ensured that everyone had a glass in hand, for sipping in between the meeting and greeting.
With no intention of keeping guests out longer than needed, Ambassador Qindian took to the stage to speak of the growing relationships and ties between Jamaica and China.
"Although far away, China shares the same dream of development, prosperity, and democracy with Jamaica. I believe that as both stick to the principle of mutual respect and common development, China and Jamaica will be trusted friends forever and enjoy a more promising future together."
final formal appearance
Serving as the Chinese ambassador to Jamaica for two and a half years, the night also served as his final formal appearance as the ambassador reveals that his term in Jamaica has come to an end. But he emphasised that even though he leaves the country, the legacy will be continued between both countries.
"In the past two and a half years, the embassy and I have received a lot of help from the Jamaican Government and friends here. I love Jamaica and the Jamaican people and I will never forget you. I will continue to promote our friendship after going back to China."
After raising a toast in celebration of his country's anniversary and their continued friendship with Jamaica, ambassador Qindian made way for the Minister of Finance Dr Peter Phillip for his remarks.
This was then followed by the start of dinner and the continuation of the social buzz throughout the room.
