Fish tikka masala will be a hit

Tandoor's chef, Devender Singh, shows off his chef's special of fish tikka masala. This dish comes with fish cooked with chopped onion, tomato and capsicum flakes with spices in red sauce.

A new restaurant on the block, Tandoor is ready to maximise on the publicity and anticipated attention it will get through its participation in this year's Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week.

Located on Holborn Road, Tandoor specialises in authentic Indian cuisine, which is crafted under the guidance of head chef Devender Singh.

Flying in straight from India to be part of the restaurant's opening three months ago, Singh is a native of Delhi and brings with him authentic Indian culinary flair.

A chef for 25 years, he is ready to tantalise tastebuds with his creations in the kitchen, and he is especially excited to be showing off his skills to many first-timers during Restaurant Week.

Acknowledging that Jamaicans may have a lower tolerance level for spicy foods than Indians, he noted that he has made allowances in the recipes to appease the taste buds. However, arrangements can always be made to have the spice level adjusted on request.

Singh's chef's special, which he believes will be a hit among diners, is the fish tikka masala. "This should do pretty well since everyone can have it and enjoy it, even if they are vegetarians or not. It is also healthy and the sauce used is mild."

Since this is not a difficult or time-consuming dish to prepare, diners should not expect a long waiting period for their meals. And this is also extended to the other dishes featured during Restaurant Week.
