Spinach-jerk chicken wrap set to delight
A culinary and artistic awakening encapsulates the dining experience at Café What's On.
With 30 years in the cooking industry, songstress and chef Suzanne 'Sue' Couch, owner of the café, decided to rejoin Restaurant Week, hoping that the third time will be the charm, "Singing is my first love, while cooking is my second," Couch confessed.
The café functions as an art gallery, and fascinating 'yardie' artwork explodes off the walls of the dining area. With her background in music, food, and now with art in the mix, Couch seeks to satisfy the pleasure palates with a three-in-one package. "Café What's On will be offering a fusion of three important aspects of the art world: culinary arts, visual arts and performing arts," Couch explains.
Dinners can look forward to taking in a showcase of authentic artwork from various artists, while indulging in delectably signature dishes. As a sweet treat, she will personally serenade dinners.
Tantalising restaurant week choices include the famous salad bar where consumers can choose from a wide array of vegetables and toppings for their personalised salads. Hand-made pork burger with the cafe's special jerk seasoning, served with ketchup and pepper jelly mayonnaise made especially by Couch, as well as a spinach-jerk chicken wrap, with the spices bursting at every bite.
For chef Derane Deweney, the spinach-jerk chicken wrap is a real chef's special. "We use a spinach wrap to give the dish a greater flavour, as well as provide a healthy option. We then prepare the jerk chicken and combine in with a range of spices before wrapping them all in," he explains.
Fighting against the odds of her environment, Couch says she seeks to "bring the vibrancy back into the community with not one, not two, but with three artistic elements for Restaurant Week".
