New laws to come for CARICOM nationals
BASSETERRE, (CMC):
The St Kitts-Nevis government says it will adopt new measures aimed at improving the treatment of Caribbean Community nationals living in the twin-island Federation. The Denzil Douglas government said it has been studying the ruling of the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice in the case in which a Jamaican national, Shanique Myrie, successfully challenged a decision by Barbados Immigration and Custom officials to deny her entry into the country in March 2011.
Three Customs officials arrested
PORT-AU-PRINCE (CMC):
Haitian law-enforcement authorities have confirmed that a prominent businessman and three Customs officials had been arrested on corruption charges, bringing to nearly 100 the number of people either charged or jailed on corruption charges over the past few months. Prosecutor Francisco Rene said businessman Philippe Victor Chatelin was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a corruption and contraband case that involved several Customs officials, including a senior official, who had been arrested on Monday.
The other two Custom officials were detained last weekend.
