Energy, fun, great clothing, incredible designs are just some of the offerings Ocean Style has proposed for its 'Rip the Hip Strip', 'Pop Up' at the Montego Bay Convention Centre. That and teeing off with movie star Anthony Gunther Anderson.
The action kicks off on October 31 and culminates November 3, in the tourism capital. Now in its sixth year, the Ocean Style FashionShowcase Weekend, which started out as a one-night event, has blossomed into four nights of fun, frolic, more fashion, music, and the showcasing of the crème de la crème of talent, found only in the Caribbean.
Ocean Style's managing director, Douglas Gordon, during the event's launch last Thursday night at the Iberostar Suites in Rose Hall, says two signature features had been added to the impressive line-up this year.
"On Thursday night, October 31, we are having something called Rip the Strip and that is going to take place on the Montego Bay Hip Strip and it is going to allow upcoming and established designers to showcase and bring together music and fashion for a much wider audience to begin the Ocean Style Fashion weekend," he revealed.
The other component, he said, moves them away from simply having a lifestyle event to something that brings the commercial element into the fray. "And that is our Pop Up. We will have our Pop Up store on Sunday at the convention centre, with all the designs that you have seen over the course of the days," he said. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase from the pieces showcased.
Also on the Sunday, Gordon and his team will host the Anthony Anderson Golf Classic at the Tryall Club.
This year again, Ocean Style has partnered with companies such as Appleton, which is now supporting the event for five years, ATL Auto, and new sponsors Iberostar Rose Hall and Jampro.
Already JAMPRO has lauded the event, crediting its impact on the creative industries.
" I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but the fashion sector is perhaps one of the fastest-growing sectors in the creative industries. And this is something that JAMPRO is very keen on pushing," said JAMPRO's Conrad Robinson.
"I feel that Ocean Style has actually provided a platform from which many of our fashion designers can get an opportunity not only to showcase their products, but to showcase them in an environment where international fashion designers and models will be a part of that," said Robinson.
