Boyne is wrong
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was shocked and confused by some of the assertions contained in Mr Ian Boyne's article 'Ding-dong battle for JLP leadership' (Sunday, October 27, 2013).
In one of his assertions, Mr Boyne stated: "... And when you talk about effectiveness in use of social media, Audley's camp is light years ahead."
While Mr Boyne is entitled to his own opinion, he is not entitled to his own facts.
I would like to remind Mr Boyne that it was Mr Shaw who stated publicly his disregard for social media by stating that he "will not lead from Twitter or Facebook".
Mr Shaw's disregard for social media is evident in the statistics.
The statistics that we have on Mr Holness' social media presence when compared to Mr Shaw's demonstrates clear inaccuracies in Mr Boyne's assertions.
- Facebook: Holness - 25,600+ likes, 1,000 new fans in the last month, 1.1 million page impressions; Shaw - 2,500+ likes.
- Twitter: Holness - 6,674 followers, 370 new followers in the last month, 1,400 mentions, 40 per cent more engagement and influence than Shaw. Shaw - 933 Twitter followers, 171 new followers in the last month, 809 mentions.
I stand ready to provide Mr Boyne with these statistics if he so desires. I ask Mr Boyne, based on these statistics, who is really light years ahead?
