Righteousness exalts a nation - Spiritual evaluation on why the Government is failing
Steve Lyston, Contributor
In 2011, they swept to power and the people of the nation were crying out for change, particularly the Church. They wanted to move away from the arrogant type of leadership and wanted God to raise up a leader who would listen to the voice of the poor; one who would run the nation with godly principles so that He would show them how to deal with the situations that existed within the nation. It was not about a political party! It was about having a leader, regardless of the party.
It is no secret that among certain Church circles they deem Portia Simpson Miller as a Christian prime minister - and even as a prophetess to the nation - to lead the nation in righteousness.
Why do you believe the Church is so silent now? Because they are ashamed and some are even disappointed that the administration totally moved away from the principles and government of God! But what they didn't know was that God would hold them accountable for the slogan 'People Power', and that God is neither JLP nor PNP!
What the nation is now facing could have been averted. The first order of business should have been to call the Opposition and every other sector within the nation and have a day of thanksgiving and repentance - asking God's guidance to lead the country out of its then (and current) problems. Had they done so, God would have revealed solutions on how to deal with the economy, and particularly the crime situation, and unite the country! ONE JAMAICA!
The sovereignty of the nation was at stake and it was not about a political party, and God was looking for someone to stand up. Jamaica was deemed a Christian country and God wanted the leader of the nation to stand up so that He could give them a vision for the elevation and strengthening of the nation. They did not seek God, and so we began to hear that there is no other way. God was ready to give the solution even regarding the International Monetary Fund, but they decided to follow the path of the past administration.
The other thing they missed was the opportunity to put the right people in place/positions! Having refused to seek God, they pulled from the 'old list' and listened to the wrong advisers.
The next thing God wanted them to do was self-sacrifice - lead by example, as it was in Nehemiah - to bring back the nation. They contradicted their very slogan of People Power and they were neither listening to God nor the voice of the people. They are now seen as the new elite party - no semblance of the former People's National Party (PNP) that the Manleys brought about and envisioned!
Righteousness and the economy
The nation's economy must be rebuilt, and if they seek God, He is willing to give them a plan to restore the nation. They started to focus on the wrong things and big investments, none of which were benefiting the nation. What they have also done spiritually, is to open the doorway for more problems, because God will not bless a mess!
No one can build a nation or economy on unrighteousness and prosper. There are consequences when spiritual laws are broken. The nation, particularly the leaders, must decide at this juncture whether the nation will follow and listen to God or not, because that will determine our direction. Why ask for the solution if you're not willing to listen to the Solution-giver!
God would have shown them the danger of entering into certain agreements that would be devastating to the nation in the time to come; where the administration of the party has moved away from moral values.
The decisions that they have made, which are not in line with biblical principles, have negatively affected foreign policies, and it is now causing greater hardships on the nation. Unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain! (Psalm 127: 1).
The next thing they missed out on was with regards to the energy deal. The monopoly that exists put the people of the nation under severe pressure. Hopelessness and the murder of the youth and all such happenings show that they have squandered the favour and the mandate that God has given them. Regardless of what is being said about the party being united, from a spiritual perspective, the truth is that they are better able to disguise their disunity than the Jamaica Labour Party. They are even more divided, and it is just a matter of time before the cover is removed!
The PNP has moved from the path of God, and the result of that is being clearly seen in the happenings of the nation.
