Western Bureau:Corporate Jamaica and well-wishers flooded into the West in their finest for the 2013 Rose Hall Holiday Ball at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Saturday (November 23). Staged by philanthropist Michele Rollins, the annual event raises funds for the SOS Children's Village at Barrett Town, St James.

The inviting ambience created by the organisers at the Montego Bay Convention Centre created an expectation that, even while supporting a worthy cause, those in attendance knew they were in for a fun-filled evening.

There was an added incentive with the presence of the (Barrington) Watson family's 'Three Generations Exhibition'. Guests were able to view the legendary painter's work, sculptures hand-crafted by his son Basil, and paintings by his grandson Kai.

In her greetings, Rollins focussed on the success stories of the children who grew up in the village and have today become some of Jamaica's most outstanding achievers, locally and internationally.

The SOS Children's Village, which was founded in 1970, has transformed the lives of many of the nation's less fortunate, and the renowned humanitarian was quick to point out that she and her family could not have achieved this on their own. "It is because of your generosity why we can continue to provide the children of SOS Village with the tools to change their lives, and for this we are grateful," she said.

The classy affair has received constant support from The Gleaner Company, Caribbean Producers Jamaica, Digicel, Jamaica Broilers, Iberostar Rose Hall, Gore Development, and Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa, among others.

The main event was the live auction of three pieces donated from the exhibition by the Watson family, including the master's handiwork, 'Portrait of Sheryl'. With a combined value of US$9,000, all the proceeds from the sale are used to fund developmental programmes for the 43-year-old facility.
