Loshusan supermarket, located at Loshusan Super Centre in Barbican, is now more than a supermarket, tantalising palates with its revamped food court.

According to General Manager Peter Vanderleer, the change was based on demand, as the only lunch offering at the plaza was a Chinese Restaurant.

"We thought that we needed to add something with traditional Jamaican meals to the menu," Vanderleer told Food. A few chefs were even added to the roster.

"Each chef has something that they specialise in, so you don't have one person doing everything, and it makes the food better," he said.

The menu incorporates Jamaican favourites such as fried chicken, oxtail, curried chicken and Jamaica's favourite side dish, rice and peas. Mouth-watering shrimp dishes such as brown stewed shrimp and curried shrimp served in sweet pepper shells are prepared.

The food court also has a variety of desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth. Some of these desserts include flourless chocolate cake, lychee cake, rum cream cheesecake, cookies and cream cake, wonderful Black Forest cake and customers' favourites - turnovers.

The food court also has a few things on the menu catered by external chefs such as sushi dishes.

With the revamp of the food court, Loshusan took the opportunity to add a new element to the supermarket - the juice bar. This was added as a healthy yet tasty alternative to the everyday bottled juices with artificial flavourings and sugars.

"The juices here are all natural. We do not add any sugars and we prepare them right in front of the customer for them to see what they are getting," Vanderleer explained, adding, "We do not prepare any element of the juice. Everything is freshly done upon request."

Straight fruit juices like orange juice and pineapple juice are offered, as well as vegetable juices and fusion juices, which are mixture of fruits and vegetables.

On the weekends, yet another element is added to the juice bar, which is the soft serves, which infuse fruit with vanilla ice cream - a hit with patrons.

The food court and juice bar is located inside Loshusan Supermarket at Barbican, 29 East Kings House Road, Kingston 6.
