When did Jesus become a JCF member?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It would seem that the son of God has assumed yet another role here on Earth as a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). There is hardly a press conference about the spiralling crime rate at which 'divine intervention' isn't mentioned. I am not aware of Jesus ever being trained at the police academy or any organisation in the national security apparatus.
If only it were that simple - praying the crime away. Maybe we should just abandon all procedure and have Jesus adjudicate jury verdicts as well, clearing up that case backlog.
But why stop there? Jesus should turn our debt into a surplus, balance our trade deficits, and since that ballooning devaluation of the Jamaican dollar is already aiming towards the heavens, divine intervention is needed there as well. Christ the Redeemer; Christ the Central Banker; Christ the Crime Fighter.
Lest my statements be construed as sacrilege, let me state that I am a man of faith but also a man of reason. Faith has its place in society, but let us not kid ourselves. Any success in resolving our laundry list of economic and social issues is dependent on the work us mortals are willing to do. On another note, I hope Jesus is being paid as a consultant in the Ministry of National Security.
