Brunch with the Clarkes

WESTERN BUREAU:New York-based Jamaican attorney-at-law, Percy Clarke and his wife, Murine, an educator, returned home for the holidays, and when these two are in town, they take on the role of host and hostess.
On Sunday, December 29, the two, who will throw a party at the drop of a hat, fêted an intimate group of friends and family members at an after-Christmas brunch at Robert Russell's new Parkway Pub in Rose Hall.
With Russell as the cook and the Clarkes as hosts, it was obvious that even with the absence of Russell's signature curried goat dish, the mackerel run down, curried chicken, ackee and salt fish, paired with boiled and fried dumplings, bananas and roasted breadfruit, would have no difficulty hitting the right note.
Russell transformed his intimate location into an attractive oasis, using sofas, cushions and orchids to add charm and sophistication to the location, while for those in attendance it was a reunion of sorts.
By 1 p.m., Percy and Murine Clarke's brunch was in full swing, offering something exceptional and different to those anxious to welcome the New Year.
The couple will spend parts of the winter months mopping up the sunshine on the island until the travel bug bites them again and they are forced to return to the ice on the streets of the Big Apple.
It was wonderful to see Dr Anthony Vendryes and his wife, Dorothy, all matched up in blue, Odette Dyer and her grandson, George Thomas and Errol Watts, Godfrey Dyer and his granddaughter, April Parchment-Knight and her budding beauty queen daughter, Kristina.
