Review PetroCaribe office move
We agree with Audley Shaw's call for the finance minister, Peter Phillips, to review a decision by the PetroCaribe Development Fund to bolt from offices at the Development Bank of Jamaica to new premises elsewhere in New Kingston, reportedly at more than three times the current rent.
The Fund says it wants more space. If it can't find anything cheaper, it is because, we suspect, they haven't looked hard enough. And perhaps not downtown.
The PetroCaribe agreement, may, on the face of it, be profitable. But it is to be reminded that its underlying capital is really debt, money owed to Venezuela for the purchase of oil, payment of which they allow us to delay. But it has to be repaid.
