OKLAHOMA, STILLWATER, (AP):

Oklahoma State University says its new Mathematics Learning Success Center is helping maths students succeed at record rates.

The centre opened in April, and since the fall semester students enrolled in lower-level math succeeded at a rate of 75 per cent or higher.

The amount of calculus tutoring has more than doubled. Business calculus students set a record with a success rate of more than 85 per cent, and calculus I students succeeded at a rate of 70 per cent, surpassing the national average by 10 to 20 per cent.

On average, students visited the centre 1,600 times a week, producing more than 23,000 visits.

The centre features 126 computers for online homework and lectures, 10 laptops for checkout, the opportunity to solve difficult problems with classmates and free personal tutoring.
