WESTERN BUREAU:
A St James woman who allegedly stole $130,000 from her workplace was given three weeks to repay the money to her boss after she failed to bring any funds before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Twenty-nine-year-old Dacy-Ann Kerr, who is of a Mount Salem address in Montego Bay and who pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny as a servant, had her bail extended until April 28, at which time she is expected to bring the full amount to repay the complainant, Lorraine Harris.
The allegations are that in August 2013, Kerr was at work and was given instructions to collect rent by her employer, Harris, who was going to the United States at the time.
It is further alleged that on January 27, 2014, Harris returned from overseas, and while taking inventory of the establishment's funds, she discovered that $130,000 was missing from the business place's money-pan. A report was made to the police, and Kerr was subsequently arrested and charged.
"Have you brought the money?" Resident Magistrate Wilson Smith asked Kerr on Monday.
"No, your honour. I am in a 'partner,' but it (money) is coming three weeks from now," Kerr answered.
Smith subsequently set the case for mention on April 28 and warned Kerr to have the money ready by that time.
"You will not be getting any further time after April 28. Your bail is extended," Smith told the defendant.
