Last Wednesday, the scenic gardens beyond the lobby area of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel revealed a showcase designed to delight and excite the taste buds.

The third annual Chefs on Show fundraiser hosted by the Culinary Federation of Jamaica, prides itself on displaying the work of master chefs at their best. And they did not disappoint in attracting and satisfying food aficionados from near and far.

Scents of savoury eats permeated the air as those present remained speechless at food stations, letting their mouths do the talking.

Innovative dishes

Pork, chicken, fish, shrimp - done a myriad of ways - pastas and ravioli dishes, with sides of several desserts, made instant connection with appetites. Talented chefs of Rainforest Seafood, Ashebre, Copperwood, 689 by Brian Lumley and Jacqui Tyson had many making repeat trips with their original recipes of curry mango jerked chicken, mango glazed pig's tail, beef tenderloin, shrimp and chicken pastas and jerked pork. Eve created innovative dishes using their products, Catering by Lorraine had a full spread of delectable goodness which included Hoisin chicken. Newcomers Roast Woodfire Bar-B-Que lit things up with their tasty corned pork sandwich with mustard and coleslaw on top and corned beef sandwich, while the University of Technology, Jamaica offered their fair share of sweet treats such as cornmeal cookies and Rosemary walnut brownies.

Libations were not to be left out as an array of sweet and dry wines and other sweet treats replenished the thirst of the foodies that were out and about.

The entertainment package also included food, with a few of the featured chefs demonstrating their unique skills, preparing quick meals live for their engaging audience.

Proceeds from Chefs on Show will go directly to sending a culinary team to represent Jamaica at the Taste of the Caribbean competition June 28-July 2 held in Miami, Florida. Award-winning chef Brian Lumley will be gracing the competition this year as a guest judge. Last year. The Gleaner's Lifestyle was on site at the Hyatt Regency when the team came home with a whopping 13 medals.
