Jamaicans have a love for food, no matter who they are and where they live, and with this in mind Gas Products limited launched their Street Style Cook-Up competition on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

Speakers at the launch included Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce the Honourable Anthony Hylton, a few sponsors - Pepsi Cola Jamaica Limited, HD Hopwood and Grace Foods and Services Company, and Carrington P. Morgan from Carrington Direct, who is the project developer. The Street style cook-up competition is geared towards the empowerment and development of inner-city communities. It will showcase cooks from Parade Gardens.

FINAL INSTALMENT

This is the final instalment in a series of community projects by Gas Pro. Gas Pro Street Style Cook-Up will have two stages. The preliminary round, which will be on May 3, will have guest judges going through the community and sampling dishes from the 40 entries. The group will then be cut to 12 people and four teams of three. They will be expected to work together and prepare one main dish that will include an entrée, soup, side dish and beverage. The finals for Gas Pro Street Style Cook-Up will be held at Tower Street, Parade Garden, on May 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be hosted by Jenny Jenny.

The launch showcased three entrants - Ionie 'Miss Likkle' Thompson, Jacqueline 'Jackie' Henry, and Rosalyn 'Din Din' Dwyer. Thompson debuted her infamous conch soup while Henry had her tasty hell-a-top, hell-a-bottom and hallelujah in the middle pudding. Dwyer showed off her natural bagged juices, which many of us would know as 'suck suck', bringing us to our childhood days.

The night closed with everyone getting their taste of Parade Garden and looking forward to the main event.
