Mandeville, Manchester:

It is time to get on the health train by trying something new at the Gaia Day Spa, located at Cobblestone Professional Centre, Mandeville. One option is the new 'iconic foot detox' treatment, which shows which toxins are being pulled from the body by the colours in the water.

The spa offers a wide range of natural treatments and the detox treatment performs dual roles: effectively eliminating toxins from the body and providing a means of relaxation.

"What we do is connect your body to our machine at your wrist as the connection to the machine helps to push the toxins out of the body. The colour of the water tells where [in the body] the toxins are taken from," said Carla Gordon-Whyte, a supervisor at the spa.

She continued: "The most common colours are black and brown, detoxifying from the liver. Cellular debris and tobacco show dark brown; detoxifying from the colon shows yellow or green; detoxifying from the lymphatic system, bladder, urinary tract, prostate area, and the sinus area shows white."

Gordon-Whyte noted that climatic and environmental issues can influence the toxins emitted. She said many people have sinus problems during this time, and so a lot of white foam is seen in the water, which means detoxing is taking place from the sinus area.

IMPORTANT PROCEDURE

According to Dr George Grandison: "It's important to have some amount of detox going on as they can be stored in the fatty tissues and remain there for quite a while. Non-traditional medical practitioners usually focus on waste that cannot be removed by the normal route of the body."

Two ways to do the non-traditional foot detox treatment are to incorporate the use of foot detox pads and a detox foot bath. Foot detox pads, also known as foot detox patches, typically made from tree and bamboo extracts, can be used on your own at home and are usually available at health stores and pharmacies. The 'ionic foot detox' baths offered at the spa require a professional to carry out the procedure.

Project Manager Shanice Nation stated: "The foot detox usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes per session. It is recommended that after you have tried the treatment for the first time, you do occasional follow-up sessions that are specified by your therapist at least three to four times per year. During the foot-detox session, you can expect to feel a warm, tingling sensation and small vibrations as your pores expand at the base of your feet. The transmission of the toxins from your body will begin as you will see when these toxins diffuse gradually in the water."

NO REGRETS

Testimonies from persons who have done the foot-detox therapy indicate no regrets as persons believe that they have benefitted in their overall health.

"I would recommend others to do the foot detox. Trust me, one thing I've learnt is that it is what is on the inside that will show on the outside," said Marlon Longmore, a regular client at the spa.

A first-time client, Devaro Whittaker, said: "I would recommend everyone to do it because I'm thinking about doing the follow-up. I'm not sure if I've seen the change as yet, but I can tell you that I do feel cleaner inside."

The non-traditional method of detoxification has made a remarkable impact on balancing leisure and health consciousness. Rather than taking pills for similar complications and/other artificial remedies to preserve your health, taking advantage of the offerings may just reduce the chances of you visiting the doctor and increase your chances of living a healthier life, while enjoying a relaxing day at the spa.
