New moms reflect on the joys of motherhood
There is nothing like the first time. And for motherhood
that is very true. Though it comes with its own set of challenges -
late-night feedings and diaper changes - it has its joys of unlimited
smiles and unconditional love from the greatest gift of all. Caribbean
Passion hosted a group of these first-time mothers and encouraged them
to 'take a break' and unwind with spa treatments and fellowship.
Bella
Spa, located in the heart of New Kingston, provided a tranquil
atmosphere, making it perfect for relaxation and reflection. The new
moms shared the best part of motherhood so far.
Skeata Williams, mother for five months
Everything that I do, I do for her because it's unconditional love. The best thing and what I'm most overwhelmed with is when I'm up in the morning, as soon as she opens her eyes, she gives me this big wonderful smile like there's nothing else in the world that matters to her. At that moment in time, there's nothing else that matters. It is such a joy to have her in my arms, just to see her, be around her, watch her grow and seeing her personality, and to see bits and pieces of me in that 17-pound human. The experience is intriguing and something that cannot be explained in words, but is felt in the heart.

For me, it's catering to all his needs and seeing how I rise to the occasion to meet all those needs - for example with breastfeeding which, at first, was a major challenge for me. When I do get breastfeeding right, it's an amazing experience. He's just so happy, content, and relaxed. He's getting all his nutrients and it even helps with his hiccups. It makes me very happy. I feel proud and just accomplished when my son is happy.
Carlene Edwards, mother for six months
There's so many intriguing aspects of motherhood so far, but the biggest part for me is just seeing Jace's development. Almost every day, he does something new and it is really intriguing and sometimes it leaves me in awe because I can't believe the things he's doing at that stage. I look forward to feeding and bath times - when he smiles at me during feeding and when he pats his hands in the water at bath time are some really great moments. I will cherish those forever.

I think the best part of motherhood so far is what he has taught me. I now have a sense of selflessness - he is my number-one priority and taking care of him is paramount to me. Also, watching him grow - every day he does something new that I'm not used to and that I'm not expecting. At first, I was looking forward to seeing him doing things like laughing and then I hear him giggle and I'm looking forward to him holding things. Now, he's grabbing things and pulling me down!
Tanesha Wallace, mother for five months
The best part is the entire journey, watching him grow. The smiles and the giggles, how animated he gets when you speak to him or when you play with him. I am amazed at how life has granted me such a wonderful gift and I am just watching the whole process unfold.
