The Skinnz Dermatology and Wellness Centre staged its inaugural skin-care and wellness seminar at the St Paul's United Church in Montego Bay last Thursday.
According to operator of the centre, dermatologist Dr Carol Burrell, the seminar was staged to advise attendees how to care for the body from the inside out, as attaining beautiful skin begins from within. She said the event was also held in a bid to promote proper nutrition.
"It is the first seminar that Skinnz Dermatology and Wellness Centre has put on, and we just wanted to inform people about how they can take care of their skin, what are the necessary nutrients they need to take to have healthy skin, and the products they need to be putting on," Burrell told Western Focus.
EMPOWERMENT
"I also wanted to give them enough knowledge that they could go into the pharmacy and select products. So it's not about getting them to come to the office, but empowering them with knowledge so that they choose good products for themselves, so that they are not using two or three of the same ingredients," she added.
Skinnz operates from two locations - Union Street in Montego Bay and Gateway Medical Centre in Mandeville. Burrell said she was encouraged by the turnout in Montego Bay and, as a result, was planning to stage other seminars in Mandeville and Kingston.
"I am thinking to keep others (seminars). I am encouraged at the turnout, so I will have other seminars. I may choose to do them in other regions," she said.
"I am not just a dermatologist; I am a wellness person. So for me, it's not just about curing diseases, it is about helping people to live healthier lives," she added.
