Escape Exceeds Expectations

Greeted by a silver starred pathway brought to life by a myriad of colours, specially invited guests escaped to a night filled with fun, food and frolic.

The American Women's Group of Jamaica (AWGJ) hosted their annual all-inclusive fundraising event - Escape - on the grounds of the American International School of Kingston on Saturday (May 17), and it was nothing short of amazing.

With inclement weather threatening to dampen the evening's proceedings, patrons slowly but surely made their way into the transformed venue. The meet-and-greet segment involved round trips to the two bars at the venue. The featured drink for the night was their very own Escapini - but there was no shortage of other libations, the desire for which kept the waiting staff busy throughout the night.

In no particular order, those in attendance got acquainted with the delectable food stations. The oyster bar had both men and women returning for seconds, while delicious smoked marlin with cream cheese, jerk sausage with mango chutney, and mouth-watering shrimp, among others, floated around the space, whetting insatiable appetites.

The CPJ-sponsored tent housed the main course for the evening. The buffet style proved to be the most effective for eager palates, which were pleased by the delights of penne alfredo, jerk pork, charcoal pan chicken, curried goat, freshly sliced ham, fluffy jasmine rice, roast breadfruit, and a variety of side salads.

Enthralled in a trance of 'feel good music', the crowd gathered beneath red chandeliers to work up a sweat. Under the stars, they partook of the merriment of dancing and drinking to the sweet beats of soca, reggae and pop. Several prizes were awarded to the best dancers on the dance floor.

The ASWJ has made it their mission to bring as many students as possible up to the university level, since they believe a high-school education is a good foundation for our youths. All proceeds for the night will be going directly to their scholarships and community service projects.
