Summer is here and, with the greatest show on earth - the 2014 World Cup in Brazil - there is little time for football fans to find great meals that will fuel the stomach without hurting the pocket.

And so, until July 4, a number of restaurants have responded to the demand with a few specials on their menu. Pork lovers, in particular, will be excited to discover Copperwood Pork's Best Pork in Town - Lunch Edition!

From smoked pork chops to Mexican-inspired roasted pork and the Jamaican staple - jerked pork, there is a meal to suit every palate. Participating restaurants include Alexander's Restaurant at the Courtleigh, Chilitos Mexican Restaurant, Jojo's Jerk Pit and More, Ribbiz Ultra Lounge, Sizzling Wok, and Sweetwood Jerk Joint.

You can have the other white meat for as low as $450 from Mondays to Fridays from 11 a.m to 4 p.m., depending on the location.

For the health-conscious, you'll be glad to know that consumption of lean pork is actually recommended by nutritionists as part of a healthy diet. Registered dietitian and nutritionist at Caribbean Tots to Teens, Kerry Weatherly, confirmed that lean cuts of pork are an excellent source of Vitamin B complex and phosphorous. Lean pork also provides more protein in a 3oz serving than that of chicken breast. So you can treat yourself without the guilt!

Oliver Chang, owner of Sizzling Wok, located in Upper Manor Park Plaza, shared a Chinese roast pork recipe that is a definite crowd-pleaser!

Char Sui Roasted Pork

Ingredients

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup oyster sauce

3tbs egg powder

2 eggs

3tbs baking soda

4tsp minced garlic

4tsp salt

2 chicken bouillon

1/2 cup ground bean sauce

1 (4lb) Copperwood Pork shoulder

Method

1. Combine first nine ingredients in a small bowl, stirring well with a whisk. Place in a large plastic bag. Add pork to bag and seal. Marinate in refrigerator overnight or at least three hours, turning occasionally.

2. Preheat oven to 375F. Place pork and marinade in a roasting pan and cook for 45 minutes, turning occasionally.

3. Remove pork from oven and reserve liquid; place pork on a cutting board. Cover with aluminium foil to keep warm.

4. Add roasting liquid to a saucepan and thicken with cornstarch.

5. Slice pork and drizzle sauce.

6. Enjoy!
