Suzette Ramdanie-Linton was recently installed as president of the Rotary Club of Montego Bay Sunrise for the period 2014-2015 at a ceremony held at the Seagarden Beach Resort in Montego Bay recently.
In her acceptance speech, Ramdanie-Linton said under her leadership, the club would be providing proper water, sanitation and garbage-disposal solutions to 10 basic or primary schools in rural St James.
Selecting schools
"We chose to look at three schools, with the intention of choosing one. However, after seeing the condition of the first two, we decided we needed to help them all. There was no way we could only help one. So after discussion with my club members, we decided to dub this project the St James Water and Sanitation Project for Rural Schools," Ramdanie-Linton, who is manager of the two Victoria Mutual Building Society locations in Montego Bay, said.
"We eventually visited several schools and have taken the decision to assist 10 of these educational institutions. So this will be my major project for this year at a cost of approximately US$50,000," she added.
Ramdanie-Linton outgoing president Dayan V. Ives, who was at the helm of the six-year-old Rotary Club since 2012. The organisation was also one of 145 Rotary Clubs recognised with a Significant Achievement Award from Rotary International for 2013-2014.
