Fatal crash driver surrenders
PHOENIX (AP):
A 68-year-old Chandler woman who allegedly was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication has surrendered in a May wrong-way freeway collision that killed two people.
The state Department of Public Safety (DPS) says Patricia Neal Murphy was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and other charges in the early morning head-on accident on the Loop 202 freeway.
According to DPS, Murphy required a lengthy recovery after being seriously injured in the accident on the Loop 202 freeway.
A young Mesa couple died and Murphy's nine year-old grandson was slightly injured. The DPS identified those killed as 25-year-old Michael Ruquet and 20-year-old Ashley Adea.
Murphy appeared in court last Thursday and was ordered held in lieu of US$500,000 bond. Her attorney, Brad Smith, did not immediately return a call for comment.
