Montserrat governor announces election date

The Governor for Montserrat, Peter Waterworth, has announced a general election for September 8.



Montserrat was not expecting an election before another two years.



Governor Waterworth’s decision was made based on the recommendation of the Chief Minister Dr. Lowell Lewis.



The Chief minister wants an early election because he had lost confidence in some of the members of the Legislative Council.



A council of ministers is to be appointed in the interim to manage the island’s affairs until the general election.
