Bernard Parker brought hosts South Africa closer to the semifinals of the Confederations Cup by scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over New Zealand today.

Tsepo Masilela set up both goals for South Africa who started the tournament hesitantly with a 0-0 draw against Iraq.

With Spain through from Group ‘A’ with six points after beating Iraq 1-0 earlier today, South Africa seem secure with four points.

Meanwhile, the competition continues tomorrow with Brazil facing the United States.

Brazil edged Egypt with a last-minute penalty kick in their opener, and another victory will secure the defending champions a spot in the next stage.

The Americans will be hoping for an upset just to get back into contention.

Brazil and Italy lead Group B with three points each, while the United States and Egypt have zero.
