Jamaican Gareth Breese scored an attacking 48 in a rain-affected match at Edgbaston in England as Durham closed today’s second day of their LV County Championships against Warwickshire on 403 for seven.

Breese, who played one Test match for the West Indies, struck eight boundaries but was brilliantly caught on the deep mid-wicket boundary two short of a half-century.

The Division One champions added 81 to their overnight score with Ian Blackwell leading the way with an undefeated 139. Mark Stoneman was the only wicket to fall today. He made a patient 64.

West Indies player Dwayne Smith was also among the runs. He hit 30 with five boundaries for Sussex, who struggled to 197 in reply to somerset’s 367 at Hove.

Somerset moved 222 runs ahead by closing at 52 for one.
