Stanford to appear before US court

Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford is expected to appear before a federal court in the US sate of Virginia, today.



Yesterday, 58-year-old Stanford surrendered to US authorities who turned up at his home.



They were armed with a warrant which was issued for his arrest on criminal charges.



Stanford is already facing civil charges brought by the US Securities and Exchange Commission on allegations that he defrauded investors a total of $8 billion.



However Stanford’s lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, says he has not been made aware of the criminal charges being brought against his client this time round.
