US ready for North Korea threat

US military officials say the country is in a good position to protect itself from a potential North Korean missile strike.



The comments come amid reports suggesting that North Korea intends to target Hawaii.



US defense secretary Robert Gates says although his administration is concerned about the potential threat it has enough support in the event of an attack.



North Korea\'s nuclear ambitions have long been the focus of international concern.



The UN Security Council has passed tough new sanctions in response to North Korea\'s nuclear tests.



North Korea’s ally countries have since called for the territory to reconsider its military stance.
