UK aids Zimbabwe

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has committed to giving 5 million pounds in extra aid to Zimbabwe.

The decision comes after a meeting with his Zimbabwean counterpart Morgan Tsvangirai in England today.

This brings the UK’s total aid to Zimbabwe this year to 60 million pounds.

But Mr Brown said more money would only come after further reform of the country.

He also said the money would go through aid agencies, and not the government in which Mr Tsvangirai shares power with President Robert Mugabe.

Zimbabwe said it needs 4.9 billion pounds to revive its economy.
