Antigua and Barbuda issues advisory for school with H1N1
Antigua and Barbuda’s Education Ministry has issued health guidelines for the graduation ceremonies for schools after a male student at one institution was confirmed with the Influenza H1N1 virus.
Education Minister Dr Jacqui Quinn-Leandro has advised that school assemblies and graduation ceremonies be kept brief and that persons avoid contact with others.
Dr Leandro has also implored students to accept their graduation certificates with a sign of courtesy such as a bow, as opposed to the customary handshake.
The education ministry further said students should stay away from their schools, once end of year examinations have been completed.
It said the measures have been instituted as part of efforts to avoid a spread of the H1N1 virus.
Five cases of the virus have been confirmed in Antigua and Barbuda.
