Members of Barbados’ tourism sector have appealed to the government to do more to assist with the upkeep of their properties.

President of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) Wayne Capaldi, said such a move would help tourism-related businesses to stay afloat during the global economic downturn.

Mr Capaldi said tourism marketing is a key area that needs assistance.

Meanwhile, another executive member of the BHTA has described the proposed closure of a major tourist attraction as a big blow for the industry.

Executive Vice President Sue Springer said she’s surprised at the planned six-month shutdown of a major attraction, Harrison’s Cave.

But the operators of Harrison’s Cave have said that when the facility re-opens after the six-month period, patrons will have an enhanced experience at the facility.
