Chanderpaul, Gayle looking to close gap
West Indies captain Chris Gayle and top batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul will be looking to challenge for the top spot in the One-Day International batting rankings when the four-match series against India bowls off tomorrow at Sabina Park.
The left-handed Chanderpaul is currently ranked at Number 2 and a good performance with the bat could see him close the gap on the top-ranked Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Dhoni is ahead on 817 ratings points, while Chanderpaul has 777 ratings points. Gayle holds down third place in the rankings with 771 rating points.
West Indies, still languishing at eighth spot in the team rankings will also be vying to narrow the gap on seventh place Sri Lanka.
An emphatic 4-0 series win will gain them nine ratings points to move to 99 while a 3-1 win will earn them six points.
Sri Lanka have 105 ratings points while West Indies have 90.
