Guyana concerns about unfair flight charges
The Guyanese government is raising concerns that the Trinidad and Tobago based Caribbean Airlines is charging more for flights from the country when compared with other Caribbean destinations.
Government spokesman Dr Roger Luncheon said his government will be seeking an explanation from the airlines executive on what it terms unfavourable fare structure.
According to Dr Luncheon, the average cost for a return flight from Guyana to Trinidad is approximately US$280, while it costs about US$400 from Trinidad to New York.
Dr Luncheon said Guyana’s Prime Minister Sam Hinds, who has responsibility for the transport sector, would be seeking to meet with Caribbean Airlines executives in Guyana, on the matter.
He said the government will also be looking into the fare structure of other airlines that fly to Guyana.
